Chardonnay

As we continue our journey through grape varietals, I want to jump to a white option. It is SUPER easy to get into a rut with wine and I know so many people who drink red wine exclusively. Well, the point of this is to be adventurous and try new things. If you’re just getting started in wine I really want to encourage you to try and develop a palate for both. Not all wines are for everyone, but I am convinced everyone can find a red and white option that appeals to their tastes. Just ask my mother-in-law who recently opted for the Pinot Blanc over the Pinot Noir we were pouring. It wasn’t a trip to an alternate dimension, it was just realizing that what she disliked in most white wines didn’t apply to this specific varietal/style.

ENAMORE
This wine is a collaboration between renowned producers Allegrini (Italy) and Bodega Renacer (Argentina). The aromas are pleasantly traditional for a Merlot, with violets and blueberry leading into a rich palate of blackberries, licorice and chocolate. Aged 17 months in French oak before release, this is a wine that drinks beautifully now but will continue to age gracefully for several more years.

Thursday Wine Tasting 12.22.16

Due to the upcoming holidays, this week’s tasting will be held on THURSDAY, December 22nd from 3-7 pm. We hope you’ll stop by for some fun festivities. Here’s what we’ll be pouring:

We’ll be pouring three classics from Ferrari Carano’s lineup. Ferrari Carano has been a family owned and operated winery in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley since 1981. Don and Rhonda Carano have an uncompromising devotion to quality and a firm belief that wine is first created within the vineyard. This philosophy has led them to purchase many outstanding vineyard plots throughout California: an expensive endeavor, but one that allows them complete control of their product over the cheaper alternative of purchasing grapes from a private vineyard. This devotion to excellence has established Ferrari Carano as a continuously reliable producer of quality wine.

FERRARI CARANO CHARDONNAY
This Sonoma County Chardonnay offers the best balance between bright vibrant fruit and rich, creamy oak. Aged in mostly older French oak barrels, the oak influence in this wine is more subtle, offering notes of apple pie, lemon curd and warm baking spice, while sur lie aging brings creamy texture and warm hazelnut notes. Malolactic fermentation is stopped just shy of completion, leaving a crisp, vibrant acidity that leaves you craving another sip. Pour this out with your Christmas turkey or with any wide variety of starters.

FERRARI CARANO MERLOT
Merlot can be a challenge to make, running the risk of becoming an unbalanced, hot, flabby wine. The excellent winemaking team at Ferrari Carano did an exceptional job, despite struggling with warmer than normal temperatures and the need for an early harvest. Gentle handling during fermentation and 15 months of oak aging produced a balanced wine with ripe, juicy fruit and lively texture. Lush blue and purple fruits and enhanced by warm oak spice and hints of vanilla. Velvety, supple tannins support this medium bodied wine through a lingering finish.

FERRARI CARANO CABERNET SAUVIGNON
This full bodied Cabernet is blended with a small amount of Syrah, adding to its rich, deep color and hints of peppery spice in the nose. Classic notes of cassis, dried mint and dusty leather fill out the velvety, lush palate. Bold tannins make this wine an ideal accompaniment to any roasted meat dish.

AMANCAYA GRAN RESERVA MALBEC-CABERNET SAUVIGNON
A great blend of two powerhouse grapes, this is a wine that will evolve as it sits. Rich black and red fruits dominate the nose eventually giving way to a dark earthiness. The palate is rich and vibrant with firm tannins and a lively acidity. The fruit continues on the palate underscored by truffle, dark chocolate and peppery spice. Let it breathe, and then enjoy with a standing rib roast.
